Welcome to

Bridlington Nursery School

“Where children come first and everything we do must reflect this single goal.”

'Children's Kitchen'

At Bridlington Nursery we have a fully equipped children’s kitchen. In this area and built up over a period of time the children learn to independently bake!

Why do we have a children’s Kitchen?

What the teachers say.

‘Enabling very young children to bake independently takes great courage

– of the adults!’

Children bake independently here,
because they can.

If you believe you can, you can,

but if you believe you can’t, you can’t.

It’s that simple, but it’s an incredibly powerful message.’

‘It’s about letting go of control and seeing the enormous learning potential that baking offers.’

‘If you can bake a cake when you’re 3, just imagine what might be possible when you’re 5, 6 or 7.’

What research and educators tell us.

Cooking can help young kids learn and practice some basic math concepts and build language skills; it can help build their self-confidence and lay the foundation for healthy eating habits.

Bringing kids into the kitchen can benefit them in a number of ways. Here is just a few…

Build basic skills. It can help your child hone basic math skills by doing something as simple as counting eggs or pouring water into a measuring cup. It helps develop the concept of what comes first, second, and third or count together as you spoon dough onto a baking sheet. When you read a recipe together, you're introducing new words to your child's vocabulary and promoting literacy. Following steps in the recipe can work on listening skills.

The Practical Life areas of the Nursery have some basic goals. The basic cooking and baking found in this area of the learning environment, provide real life experiences for children. The exercises in Practical Life provide purposeful activity, develop motor control and coordination, develop independence, concentration, and a sense of responsibility.
